Congratulations, Elizabeth!
The members of the Dallas Storytelling Guild are pleased and proud to announce
that one of their own, the incomparable Elizabeth Ellis, has been cited as an
NEA American Masterpieces touring artist! Elizabeth tirelessly serves both the Guild and the Tejas
Storytelling Association and is recognized as one of the "grande dames" of the
American storytelling movement.
The NEA website has this to say: "Elizabeth Ellis' voice sounds the way chocolate
tastes. But she is more than just another pretty voice. Invariably hilarious and
poignant, she is a repeated favorite at the National Storytelling Festival.
She shares traditional tales of Appalachia and Texas, as well as stories of
heroic American women, but her personal stories are arguably her best. She is a
recipient of the Circle of Excellence Award from the National Storytelling Network
and the John Henry Faulk Award from the Tejas Storytelling Association. A
delightful teacher of telling, Elizabeth lives in Dallas. Elizabeth has an
extensive repertoire of 400 or more stories. She selects the stories to fit the
interests of the listeners or any theme chosen by the presenter. She tells
folktales from cultures around the world, Appalachian and Texas tales, stories of
heroic American women and personal and family narratives."
This says a lot, but it hardly scratches the surface! For more information about "our" Elizabeth, please visit the website: http://www.arts.state.tx.us/rosters/touring/am.asp
